Uruguay international Nunez joined the Reds from Benfica, though it was Almeria which first brought him to Europe.
Exchanging messages with fans on X, Nunez was asked about his time at Almeria and replied: "One day I'm going to come back!
"Almeria is my home, I have a lot of affection for it and the best thing that happened to me was meeting my wife who gave me a beautiful family!"
Nunez, in his one season with Almeria, scored 16 goals in 32 appearances for the 2019/20 campaign.
