Everton's trophy drought has been ongoing for over 30 years. Their last major trophy was the FA Cup in 1995 when the Toffees lifted the FA Cup. Now, as the club go to Molineux for a Carabao Cup third round tie to face a Wolverhampton Wanderers their captain Tarkowski has opened up on finally lifting silverware this season.
Although Everton have lifted silverware across nine separate decades, they have never won the EFL Cup. However, Tarkowski has taken inspiration from recent cup wins from Crystal Palace and Newcastle United and hopes to use that with his Everton side.
“There’s definitely an emphasis on us doing well in the cups this year and after winning the first round, we want to go again.
“I think we’ve all seen Crystal Palace and Newcastle last year, teams outside the big six, have won a domestic trophy so there’s no reason why we can’t go and do it.
“As I said, there’s an emphasis on it as a club and as a team to go and win a trophy and go as far as we can in the competition so the group is definitely ready to go.
“Every season there’s always an emphasis on the cup but I think it’s definitely been mentioned between the group of the players and staff that we want to go and win something.”
Everton has won nine league titles, five FA Cups, one European Cup Winners' Cup, and nine Charity Shields in their history and despite their current trophy drought they could clinch a trophy this season under manager David Moyes.
This is a huge feat however and their first test comes against Wolves this week as they prepare for what is a huge step towards a much needed trophy.
