Szoboszlai hit the crossbar with a penalty in the 1-1 draw against Burnley on Saturday afternoon after Cody Gakpo was taken out in the box, just five days after he gifted Barnsley a goal with a back heel in the FA Cup.
Szoboszlai's future is up in the air
The Hungarian captain has been in excellent form in the last few months and has arguably been the best player under manager Arne Slot in what has been a tough campaign so far.
The 25-year-old has spoken out this week as he revealed that his future is uncertain, despite his impressive form which many fans have been impressed with.
“There is always progress but no decision has been made and I’ll just keep on going every week, every training, giving my best for the team, for the fans,” he said.
“Let’s see what is going to happen in the future.
“Of course I am happy here, but you know how football works and that is something everybody has to take into account.”
Will Salah stay?
The future of teammate Mohamed Salah is also under question after rumours sparked that he may leave in the winter window after falling out with Slot.
Salah said he was “thrown under the bus” before he made up with Slot and Szoboszlai has revealed that his future will be decided by Slot in the near future.
“We speak about everything (but) that’s between me and him. He will come back, and then we just keep on going,” he said.
“He will be here and it’s the decision of the manager and the club. It is not about us, it is about him.”
Salah has since returned to Merseyside after Egypt were knocked out of AFCON, he is expected to be back in the squad to face Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday night as he tries to justify staying at the club after a poor season so far.
