Liverpool travel to the French capital for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday night in a clash where The Reds are far from favourites.
All eyes will be on Arne Slot‘s side to see how they respond from the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend which saw Liverpool be brutally knocked out of the FA Cup.
The good new for Slot, who is under immense pressure, is that Isak is back in training and travelled with the squad this week in what is a welcome return.
The Swedish striker hasn’t featured since he suffered a broken ankle and fractured leg on December 20th when he scored the opening goal in the 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur.
Isak could make a difference
Speaking to Betfair, Shearer opened up on the former Newcastle star who he believes could help end Liverpool’s woes which have pushed Slot to the brink.
“Depending how fit Isak can be, or how good he can be in between now and the end of the season, he could be like a new player coming in, because we've seen hardly anything of him.
“Certainly, nowhere near the form that we've seen him in at Newcastle last season.
“Whether he can get up to speed that quickly remains to be seen, but it could be a great boost for Liverpool to have him back.”
On Liverpool’s struggles: “Slot has been in the game long enough to understand the situation that they're in, and how football works. It's as simple as it sounds, but it's obviously very, very difficult, but he knows what he has to do."
Mohamed Salah, Federico Chiesa and Jeremie Frimpong have also been included in the squad, having also recovered from injuries to appear in the FA Cup defeat in what is a strong Liverpool squad desperate for a win.
