Former Premier League star Scott Sinclair says Liverpool lifting the FA Cup could save their poor season so far.

Liverpool destroyed Galatasaray in a 4-0 win to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday night as manager Arne Slot bounced back in style after a poor run of form.

Their Champions League campaign as well as their run in the FA Cup have been Liverpool’s saving grace this season. Slot will be aiming to lift a piece of silverware as he tries to ward off reports of him being sacked which have grown in recent weeks.

Speaking to OLBG, Sinclar believes that the club’s standards may be set too high as they expect to save their season by winning the FA Cup.

“Sometimes when your standards are so high, you've got to just replicate that every season or the fans will be disappointed. As I keep saying, the expectations at Liverpool are huge.

“Slot’s future? That's obviously up to the club to decide. Managers come in and they do so well. Like I said, he's won the league, and then this year they're expecting to win the league again.

“They didn’t have the season that was expected and people automatically look towards the manager. That's going to be a tough call for the club, considering what he did last year.

“Everyone's moving on so fast and it's one of those things where people say you're only as good as your last game, no one really cares about what happened last season and last year, it's all about the now and looking forward to the future.

“Winning the FA Cup, if they can get a trophy and they can get something, would save the season alongside a Champions League spot.”

The Reds face Manchester City in the FA Cup and PSG in the Champions League next month in what are two tough tests for a side who are knocked out the EFL Cup and far, far from the title race under Slot.
