West Ham United playmaker Lucas Paqueta is considering suing the FA over the spot-fixing acquittal this month.

An independent commission cleared Paqueta of four charges in July after it had been alleged that he deliberately attempted to receive a card in four Premier League games between November 2022 and August 2023.

Now the midfielder’s legal team and the Hammers are considering a potential multi-million pound legal case against the FA according to the BBC. This comes after his reported £80M move to Manchester City collapsed due to the allegations.

Paqueta faced a four-year ban at the time and manager Pep Guardiola pulled out of the deal to sign the Brazilian. The commission noted that Paqueta and West Ham would have "received substantial sums running into the tens of millions of pounds" and that "both the player and West Ham reserve all of their rights in that regard".

The FA confirmed it will not be appealing against the decision and has been contacted for comment over what are serious charges that could be put against the organization over the coming year if Paqueta decides it is necessary.

The FA said 253 separate bettors placed bets on Paqueta being yellow-carded over the four matches, and the FA said 27 could be linked to the player. However, none were proven and now that the midfielder has been acquitted it looks like he could be taking this situation even further, which will worry the FA.
