According to L’Equipe, Marseille are struggling to meet the terms of a settlement agreement they signed with UEFA in 2022.
At the time, the French club received a relatively lenient punishment, including a €2 million fine, after breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.
In return, they committed to restoring their finances in line with UEFA’s sustainability requirements.
However, the club’s financial position has since worsened. Marseille have partly blamed the collapse of domestic television rights revenue in France for their difficulties, hoping UEFA will take the wider context of French football into account when evaluating their case.
A recent audit by Tifosy Capital has further raised internal concerns, highlighting a heavy wage bill, high operating costs, and additional spending commitments that could further strain the club’s finances moving forward.
