Ally McCoist says fan protests are justified as Rangers boss Russell Martin fails to impress this season.

Rangers were beaten 1-0 by Genk in their Europa League opener, meaning that former Southampton boss Martin has now won only four of his 14 games in charge of the Scottish giants.

The home crowd made it brutally clear they've had enough of Martin in charge as they called for him to step down immediately. Rangers legend, McCoist has now revealed that he thinks fan protests are justified given their form.

"Absolutely, of course they are. They've got every right to, totally justified with the disappointment in what we've seen," he said. "It clearly hasn't been good enough, and it isn't good enough, and tonight was another disappointment.

“You can point to the red card, the deserved red card, but it goes deeper than that, the level of performances haven't been good enough.

"Listen, the manager's in trouble, the manager's in big trouble because something has to change, and something has to change dramatically. On the current evidence, sadly, I can't see it happening."

The Gers have played five SPFL matches and have no wins, four draws and a defeat. Martin’s job is hanging by a string and another loss this weekend could be the end of his career in Scotland in what has been a dire time away from home.
