Forest won 3-0 on Thursday night with Abbott handed a start by manager Sean Dyche.
He said afterwards: "An early goal really helped us. We know it's always quality opposition in Europe, so you always need to be on the front foot and make sure you don't give them (space).
"The back four did that really well and the two centre-halves were really good. The whole team played really well and it was an enjoyable night for us."
Abbott added: "Our aggressiveness in the press made sure they couldn't get out that much. They had a few spells but not too much. We kept it two-touch... and, luckily, the goals fell for us.
"That's when you start being comfortable in the game and move the ball quicker. I can take positives away (personally) and it was a good performance, with loads to go at and more to learn."
