The Japan international has been a free agent since mutually terminating his contract with the Gunners in the summer as competition for places grew under manager Mikel Arteta.
Now, the 27-year-old is set to sign a short-term deal with the Eredivisie club, as confirmed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Monday morning.
“Takehiro Tomiyasu to Ajax, here we go! Verbal agreement reached on a contract valid until June 2026.
“Short term deal in place, medical set to happen on Tuesday — if all good, the Japanese defender will put pen to paper.
“New chapter after leaving Arsenal as free agent.”
Speaking after Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Sheffield United a few seasons ago, Arteta praised the defender, who has suffered numerous injury setbacks which eventually led to his Arsenal departure.
“I love him. Everybody loves him. He’s one of the most popular in the dressing room,” the Arsenal manager said.
“You can see the reaction of his team-mates towards him. They wanted him there at the front, enjoying it. He’s always very reserved and always doing things for the rest of the boys. He’s a fantastic player for the team.”
