Nijstad, a ball playing centre back, could be set to leave the club despite FC Twente being keen on tying him down to a new long-term deal.
According to Voetbal International, Chelsea and Barcelona have both sent their scouts to watch Nijstad on several occasions.
Twente are demanding a fee of around €8 million for the teenager, which Barcelona currently consider to be too high.
