Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has opened up on his talk with Alexander Isak which went viral last season.

Isak scored against Liverpool to help end Newcastle United's 70-year wait for a trophy as they lifted the EFL Cup last season. However, despite the loss, Liverpool fans focused on the chat between Van Dijk and Isak which quickly went viral online.

The two players were seen to exchange words shortly after the final whistle, but six months down the line, Virgil van Dijk still won't be drawn on what exactly was said to him even though Isak has joined the club this summer.

"I'm not telling you!" he laughed. "Maybe in two years' time or three years' time, I will tell you. But not now. I can't remember!”

The Dutchman also admitted that he is happy that the whole transfer drama is over and that the Swedish international is at the club after months of negotiations.

"I know it was a very difficult time," Van Dijk told reporters at Turf Moor. "When negotiations always drag on, it's never easy. So many things going on behind the scenes.

"Not only me, but the whole team and everyone connected to the club were very pleased that the deal got done. Now he's here, he's a part of the family.

"It is time for him to be as fit as he can as quickly as possible, and be important for us with goals, with assists, with link-up play, and with what Hugo (Ekitike) has already been showing and doing, pushing each other and bringing us to the next level."

Isak sealed his Anfield switch on deadline day, becoming the British transfer record holder in the process. He is still waiting to make his debut for The Reds which may come against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
