Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann has suggested that the EFL Cup final could hurt the club's title chances.

Manchester City were 2-0 winners against Arsenal in Sunday's Carabao Cup final in a clash where The Gunners failed to impress under manager Mikel Arteta.

Despite their loss, Arsenal boast a nine-point advantage over second-place City who have a game in hand as manager Pep Guardiola chases the side down.

The final will have been tough to take for the North London side whose quadruple chances were blown to pieces.

Speaking after the game, Lehmann suggested that the loss may play a role in hurting Arsenal mentally heading into the final 7 games of the season.

“I would say I'm not unhappy they haven't won (the Carabao Cup), because you can't win four titles,” Lehmann said. “This will give them more focus in winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and probably the Champions League.

“I was sitting right behind the sub-bench and I saw their anger and disappointment. That normally causes a psychological effect which follows you everywhere.”

Arteta's side require 16 points, five wins and a draw, to mathematically end their 22-year wait for Premier League glory.

Both clubs meet again on Sunday April 19th in what should be an entertaining clash between the title challengers in a race where Arsenal will hope not to slip up after an excellent run in their campaign so far.
