For Balerdi, Angel Gomes and Facundo Medina "are among the best in their positions in Ligue 1".

"The last time I was at training and saw Angel Gomes linking up with Amine Gouiri, then Facundo Medina... They're great Ligue 1 players and I'm glad they're with us." The two players have profiles "that fit the style of play Roberto De Zerbi wants," Balerdi said.

While he describes Medina as a defender who "really likes to play with the ball", he says he's surprised by Angel Gomes, who he admits he knows less about: "He's preparing very well, even if he still has to adapt. He's training well, because since the start of pre-season he's been a starter, he's done a lot, he understands the game well and that helps us."

Asked to comment on the imminent arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, he said he was "very happy to have him back" after a first spell at Marseille in the 2023/2024 season: "Aubameyang will bring us a lot of goals throughout the season and a lot of professionalism. He's an exceptional player with an extraordinary career, so there are only good things."
