Lampard, Millwall’s Alex Neil, Middlesbrough’s Kim Hellberg and Hull City’s Sergej Jakirovic have all been nominated for the prestigious award as all four managers battle it out at the top of the division.
The former Chelsea star leads the contenders after guiding Coventry City to the top of the table with 25 wins from 41 matches so far which leaves the side 12 points ahead of second place Ipswich Town.
Lampard established himself as one of Chelsea’s greatest ever players during his 13-year spell at Stamford Bridge, scoring a club-record 211 goals.
Now, he is finding success as a manager and reports have linked him with a return to Chelsea as pressure grows on current head coach Liam Rosenior.
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour recently spoke on the links and claimed that Lampard would never be able to turn such an offer down.
“It’s a job Frank Lampard couldn’t turn down,’ former Arsenal and England midfielder Parlour said on talkSPORT.
“If someone went up to him and asked him to be the Tottenham manager, he’d have to take it. Even if they’re in a bit of dire straits at the moment.”
Winners across all categories will be announced at the EFL's annual awards ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, April 19th where the player of the season will also be revealed.
This award is contested by Coventry’s Carl Rushworth, Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney, Millwall’s Femi Azeez, and Swansea City’s forward Zan Vipotnik, who has bagged 20 goals for his side so far.
