Barcelona Femeni captain Alexia Putellas made history in the Women’s Champions League on Wednesday.

By scoring a penalty against Roma, she becomes the club’s all-time top scorer in the competition and the Spanish player with the most goals.

Her 27th goal in the tournament surpassed former striker Jenni Hermoso and teammate Aitana Bonmati.

Putellas, a two-time Ballon d’Or winner, has 211 goals in 459 appearances for Barcelona, making her the club’s third-highest scorer behind Cesar Rodriguez and Lionel Messi, and continues to chase further milestones despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain Feminines.

"I'm very happy to be on this journey with Barca and to have competed in Europe for so many years. Being the top Spanish scorer is a recognition, but it's also the result of the team's hard work and all the team-mates who have supported me on this journey," she told the media.
