United head into the clash on the back of a narrow win over Everton away from home thanks to a second half striker from Benjamin Sesko which keeps their Champions League hopes alive.
The Red Devils are being hunted down by both Liverpool and Chelsea in the race for the top 4 and anything less than a win would hurt their chances of joining Europe’s elite next season.
United interim boss will be without a number of key players this weekend, starting in defence with Lisandro Martinez (Calf/Shin/Heel Injury), Dorgu (thigh) and Matthijs de Ligt (lower back).
Carrick gave updates on De Ligt in Friday’s press conference as he revealed he may return soon.
“Matthijs (De Ligt) has had a back issue, which has been a little bit sore to progress, really. He’s heading in the right direction."
"It’s the nature of the injury, the issue in the back, it’s a difficult one to pin downtime wise. He’s definitely improving."
Further up the pitch, Mason Mount (other) will also be absent as Carrick relies on Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo in midfield in what has been an unchanged United side for a number of weeks.
Carrick gave a small update on Mount who he revealed is close to returning much like De Ligt.
"Mason (Mount) is getting closer, he’s on the grass, he’s looking to train and be around it. We’ve just had to be patient, really.”
Mount has missed United's last four Premier League matches but could return next month as he slowly returns to training.
