Cristian Romero and Solanke struck early for the impressive triumph on Tuesday night. Dortmund were down to ten men on 25 minutes after Daniel Svensson was sent off for a high challenge.
Solanke said afterwards: "I would have preferred for it to have been a bit cleaner but a goal's a goal. I got to watch it go in in slow motion - it was nice in the end and I'm so happy to be back out here.
"It was my first start since the last game of last season and it's been a long, long time. To be back out here and to get the win meant the world.
"The Champions League is the competition that everyone wants to play in, it's the biggest club competition in the world. To get my first goal in it is something that you dream about.
"I hope so. We've done quite well in the Champions League and if you look back to last season and how well we did in the Europa League, it definitely gave the team confidence.
"We know we haven't been good enough in Premier League this year, so hopefully this gives us the extra boost, we can improve in the league and continue in the Champions League."
