Newcastle manager Eddie Howe revealed that Tonali is "very happy" at the club after the midfielder was linked with a move to Arsenal in the winter transfer window.
The Gunners were reported to be searching the market for an option to offer cover for the injured Mikel Merino who fractured his foot last week and Tonali looked to be an ideal replacement.
Reports state that if Newcastle fail to grab a Champions League spot, Tonali will aim to leave in the summer. Arsenal will be one of the first clubs to launch a move, but Simpson believes his former side would benefit from bringing him in.
“I think Tonali would work really well in that United midfield, Simpson told Metro via Meta Spins Casino. “I think he would complement Kobbie Mainoo really nicely, because he gets about the pitch so well.
“Obviously, he’s been a top player for Newcastle. He’s good on the ball, he’s strong, he’s physical, he’d be a brilliant player in there in many regards.
“Also, he’s the type of player that I think could wear a Man Utd shirt. It’s not easy, that, and I feel like he could wear it with the pressure and deal with it.
“He could definitely slot in there.”
Newcastle will be able to look for at least a £100m figure for Tonalu given that he signed a fresh contract which runs until 2029 with the option for an additional 12 months, during his ban.
Newcastle made no signings during the January transfer window and are unlikely to reach a Champions League spot which will worry the club as Tonali looks elsewhere.
