Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso insists he has the support of the board and dressing rooms ahead of tomorrow's Champions League clash with Manchester City.

After defeat at home to Celta Vigo on Sunday, speculation has intensified that Xabi will be shown the door if Real suffer a heavy defeat to City.

Speaking this morning from the Santiago Bernabeu, Xabi declared: "Communication is constant, it's based on trust, unity, and affection; we're all in this together, and yes, it's constant.

"We are all in this together. We have to get through this, in the good times and the not-so-good times, without wavering. Tomorrow, we have a very exciting match, and right now, we have to start getting fired up to play, to have that energy, so that the Bernabeu likes what they see, so that we have that connection with the fans.

"I think tomorrow that emotional connection with the fans is very important; it has to come from us. Because if that happens, we'll have a good chance of winning."

Big names linked with job

Asked about the names being linked with his job in recent days, Xabi waved away the speculation.

He said, "Well, as I said before, when you're coaching Real Madrid, you're prepared to deal with all these situations, and all I'm thinking about is tomorrow's match."

Xabi continued: "This is a team, this is a club, and we're all united. When you're the Real Madrid coach, you have to be prepared to face these situations calmly, with unity, and with the responsibility that I feel, and I’m looking forward for what’s to come and that starts tomorrow.

"We know we can turn this around. From the anger that was there, which was normal, to the excitement that's being generated thinking about tomorrow. We're focused solely on City and the Champions League, and this can change quickly. Fortunately, in football, for better or for worse, the vision, the perspective, can shift quickly, and we're at that moment."

We're prepared for Man City

On facing City, he said: "It’s a big match, a very good opportunity for us to continue progressing with more points in the Champions League, and we know that tomorrow at the Bernabeu there will be a Champions League night atmosphere against a rival that were champions a few years ago, and that we've also recently played here at home.

"The fans and the players already know what kind of match we are going to have. We hope to play a good match tomorrow."

On whether there is confidence crisis inside the squad, Xabi is confident his players will be ready for City.

"We're mentally prepared to face everything that comes our way," said the coach.

"At this moment, everyone is convinced that we can win tomorrow, there's no doubt. I think nobody has any doubts.

"But for that, we have to play a good game, we have to play with good rhythm, with good intensity."

Changing the culture

Quizzed if he is struggling to "change the culture" inside the dressing room, Xabi insists that was never the plan.

He said, "No it's not about changing the culture, it's about adapting. We knew pretty well the culture of Real Madrid. That's why it's the biggest club in the world. You need to adapt to it, you need to learn from it.

"After, there is a process. You need to have this interaction with the players, how we want to perform. Some days are good, some days are not that good. But from every game we take steps.

"And now we are in this position right now, we have to face it with good energy and positivity - that's the only way to turn it back and have a better feeling."
