Having won 13 of his 25 matches in charge. Benitez is having a tough time in Greece after signing a record two-and-a-half-year deal worth a staggering £4.4M per season. This made him the highest paid manager in Greek football history.
Greek outlet SPORT24 reports that the club’s leadership now view the OFI game as a “final” for Benitez who is on the brink of being let go.
Panathinaikos are current sitting in fifth in the Greek Super League, 16 points adrift from the top of the table and are said to have already found their replacement for Benitez in current player Igor Biscan.
Biscan played under Benitez during the glory days at Anfield and was part of the Liverpool squad that produced the Miracle of Istanbul to win the 2005 Champions League.
SPORT24 claims Panathinaikos have held initial talks with Biscan whose last role was with Qatari club Al-Ahli, where he departed in November.
Benitez took over the side at a time when his current team was eight points behind the top and three from fourth place.
That distance has now doubled and if a win is not picked up against OFI then the former Newcastle United and Everton boss will be looking for a new job.
