The 16th Champions League instalment of Real Madrid vs. Manchester City will take place at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night as the two sides clash for the first leg of their last-16 tie.
Haaland was absent on Saturday as City came from behind to beat Newcastle in the FA Cup at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon, leading to reports that he may be injured for the Madrid clash.
However, Guardiola explained that he was rested so he could be at his best against Madrid this week.
“I didn’t think to let him play and I prefer him training to (clicks fingers) make a rhythm.
“After injury, when he drops, he always struggles to have that real pace.”
Reports state that the Norwegian striker is expected to be given the all-clear to face Alvaro Arbeloa's men at the Bernabeu as Guardiola prepares his side for the toughest test so far this season.
Haaland has amassed an overall total of 29 goals and seven assists in 39 matches for Man City in all tournaments in 2025-26 and will be the first name on the team sheet against Los Blancos.
City face West Ham United at the weekend as they attempt to close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal. Haaland could be rested for the clash ahead of the second leg against Madrid next week as Guardiola rotates his side.
