Pep Guardiola has handed the Manchester City squad a day off ahead of their Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants travel to Manchester in control of the tie, having won the first leg 3-0 at the Bernabeu last Wednesday thanks to a Federico Valverde scored a first-half hat-trick.

City are tasked with completing mission impossible as they hope to overturn a three-goal deficit in front of their home fans who have to get behind the side if they want any chance of securing a place in the next round.

Surprisingly, as reported by the Daily Mail, Guardiola has made the decision to give the players a day off ahead of the clash as his players earn a well deserved rest after a busy schedule.

Guardiola made a similar decision ahead of their clash with Borussia Dortmund as he cancelled training the day before.

City went on to win the game 4-1 as they dominated the Bundesliga side and will hope to do the same to Madrid who will aim to subdue the Premier League side whose title hopes took another hit with a draw against West Ham at the weekend.

Kylian Mbappe has been included in Real Madrid's squad for their Champions League clash in midweek which does not make City’s comeback challenge any easier.

The France international has been sidelined since 21 February due to a knee problem but could feature against Guardiola who has his work cut out for him.
