AS Monaco coach Adi Hutter was left pleased after their 2-2 draw with Champions League opponents Manchester City.

Erling Haaland struck twice for City, with ASM's goals coming via Jordan Teze and a successful 90th minute penalty converted by Eric Dier.

Hutter later said: "It is certain that in the end, the equalising goal was a liberation! I also want to congratulate my players, who, given the circumstances and the absence of six or seven senior players, were fantastic, even if I believe in each of them.

"So I want to compliment them once again! I think in the end we deserve this draw, because we never gave up on the pitch, which makes me proud."

Asked if it was their best performance of the season, Hutter also said: "Over the entire 90 minutes, I would say yes indeed. Normally I like it when you're high on the pitch and pressing the opponent, but against Manchester City it's just impossible.

"I have never seen a team push this formation back into its own camp by exerting intense pressure. So we trained differently, in a 5-4-1 system with a middle block and a lower defensive line.

"And my players did it very well, even if they were very strong in possession. Still, we had scoring opportunities, although we were also lucky enough that they hit the crossbar twice. But that's football, and sometimes you need luck against City. Ultimately, I think we deserve this point from the draw."
