Jesus has been working his way back to first-team action after suffering a knee injury against Manchester United in the FA Cup way back in January, meaning he has been out for almost a year.
Jesus is one of the best striker in the world
However, the 28-year-old is closing in on a return and has been added to Arsenal’s Champions League squad ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Club Brugge.
Speaking in the press conference ahead of the clash, Martinelli praised his Brazil teammate and is delighted to see him finally return to the pitch.
“It is really good, I love him, always say that he is one of the best strikers in the world, for me, so I am really happy to have him back.
“Not just on the pitch, but outside the pitch as well, because normally when you are injured you don’t spend as much time with the team as if you are there.
“It is really good to have him back, and playing with him as well is really good. He loves to link up, to move and to rotate.
Jesus replaced Arsenal teenage sensation Max Dowman in the Champions League squad after the 15-year-old picked up an ankle injury which will leave him sidelined for two months.
Hopefully Jesus is handed a chance
Martinelli hopes manager Mikel Arteta hands Jesus a chance heading into the clash in what would be an emotional return for him and supporters who have watched his recovery with optimism.
“I just hope he can have some minutes in the next games and to show his talent again.
“He is so experienced. He has played so many games for City, for us and the national team. He is still young, I always say that to him.
“I watched him since I was I think 13 or 14, when he was at Palmeiras in Brazil, because he was playing for the first team at 16.
“So I always say to him that he looks older, for me, because I always saw him when I was 13 or 14.
“But I am really happy, it is really good to have him back and I hope he plays a little bit in the next games to show his talent again.”
