After a disappointing draw with Qarabag in the Champions League, Maresca will be hoping to bounce back against bottom of the table Wolves who are already eight points adrift of safety and guaranteed to spend the international break in 20th position.
Team news
Maresca first spoke on team news and opened up on a number of players who could return for Saturday’s game.
On Romeo Lavia: “We don't have an update at the moment. We need to wait some hours for all of the checks he needs. At the moment, he is injured. He is in pain - we need to do all the checks.
“It's a shame. It's a shame in this moment because we were trying to minimise minutes for him but even with that, he's injured again. We need to insist until we find the right solution.”
Pedro Neto: “Pedro had a session with the physio yesterday on the pitch, it was good. Today he will train with us and we will make the final decision.”
Is rotation needed?
Questions then turned to rotation, something former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney said players won’t be happy with as Maresca keeps changing his side. Maresca was asked about his comments and if he liked rotation as a player.
“I said already many times: we are in an era when anyone can say what they want. I said after the Qarabag game: since I joined the club, it is also my view to rotate players. When you don't win games, nobody agrees.
“When it's Andrey Santos, Brazil international, Jorrel Hato, Netherlands international, Joao Pedro, Brazil international - it's not about rotation. They are young, you have to give them the chances to make mistakes so they can become better.
“I loved rotation as a player. I think in this moment, football is a bit different compared to years ago because of physicality and intensity. 65-70 games a season, Champions League, Premier League; it was different years ago. You need to rotate. This is my personal view.”
Are Chelsea where they want to be?
The media then turned to Chelsea’s ambitions and asked the Italian if he thinks his side are where they want to be so far.
“We try to win all the games. This season, the expectation has raised around the team. The big difference from this season and last season is the expectation around the team. The numbers are there and we probably can be better last season.
“I said many times: I don't like to think where we can be in April, May, June; I like to think if we can win tomorrow. Then we have the international break, and then we will go again."
Is Estevao ready to start back to back games?
Finally, the media wanted to know about Brazilian wonder kid Estevao and if he is ready to start back to back games after featuring against Qarabag in mid-week.
"He's ready to start. For sure, he's ready to start. But if he starts, another one is on the bench and the other one wants to start. He is trying to adapt to England.
"He was complaining about it being cold last week and it was October. Wait until December and January! I say 'it's still hot'."
