The French international, with his Anfield contract expiring in 2026, is reportedly on top of Real Madrid’s transfer list as they attempt to steal away yet another Liverpool player after taking Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer.
At Madrid, he would earn considerably more and would arguably have a better chance at winning the Champions League. However, Konate admits that money is a problem for him and many around him often use him to get what they want.
"I'm not going to lie to you: I overdid it a bit, especially with clothes.
"You have no idea how much footballers need them (family). Many people, more or less well-intentioned, roam around us. 95 % of them come because I'm Konate, the football player, and not Ibrahima, the person.
"They want to take advantage of my fame, but they don't really care about me (...) As soon as someone wants to approach me, they filter them out."
The ex-RB Leipzig player may not be tempted to join the La Liga side next summer with just money alone, and Madrid may have to present him a project in which lifting the Champions League is the priority.
There is no doubt that the Spanish giants view him as the ideal replacement for Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba, and this season could possibly be his last with Liverpool if he decides against renewing his contract with the club.
