After the 1-1 draw at St James' Park in the home leg at St James' Park, Newcastle head to Camp Nou in the hopes of grabbing a historic win against the Spanish giants.
Newcastle secured an important 1-0 Premier League win at Chelsea on Saturday and will take confidence from such a performance as they go head-to-head with Barcelona who prevailed in each of their previous five Champions League last-16 encounters with English opposition.
Howe looks forward to a huge game
Howe first spoke on whether this would be the biggest win of his career if he manages to overcome Barcelona away from home.
"It probably would. We are in the preparation phase now. We have to make sure we get our game plan and tactical delivery at the right level.
"For me in these moments you can't think too deeply about outcomes or what may lead from it in the summer.
"We've got an experienced group and players who have played in so many big games now. You want the size of the game to lift the players and to make us grow. Certainly we can't shrink. From my side it's about getting our plan right."
Trippier could be the difference maker
After Howe confirmed Lewis Miley has not travelled with the squad and will miss Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland, he praised Kieran Trippier who faced Barcelona when he featured for Atletico Madrid earlier in his career.
"Kieran always speaks and has a few words to say. He has always been a great leader. He has invaluable knowledge of the Spanish League.
“He has been a big player for us this season. He continues to deliver outstanding performances. He is an integral part of our squad."
Newcastle have lost just two of their 11 games in the Champions League this season but have never progressed beyond the last 16 in UCL history. Howe will aim to make history this week in a result that would send the club into frenzy.
