After Arsenal's 2-0 Champions League win over Athletic Club on Tuesday, Henry revealed his concern over Arsenal’s approach in games against fellow Premier League title contenders Manchester City who will face The Gunners this weekend.
Arsenal have won three out of their four Premier League matches so far this season with the only defeat coming against Liverpool at Anfield thanks to a sublime Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick in the 83rd minute.
Speaking on CBS Sports following Arsenal’s Champions League win, Henry revealed that Arteta needs to stop being complacent and attack until the very last minute to collect 3 points or otherwise sacrifice the title.
“I’m sure you remember that game where we lost 2-0 to Aston Villa at home (in 2024). He (Arteta) takes a striker out and puts in a holding midfielder, at that moment he thought about not losing the game, we ended up losing, (Ollie) Watkins scored, if we won that game we were ahead of Man City and who knows what would happen.
“I’m just saying, if you want to win the league, you have to go and get it.
“When you play for the title you need to go and get it. Not playing not to lose games. If you want to beat Liverpool or Man City, you’ve got to go and get it, you cannot enter a game with, ‘let’s not lose it’.
“If you want to win the league, in my time, you had to get Man United, you cannot just go and say, ‘let’s see if we can draw this one’.”
Arsenal have started their season strongly under Arteta but many like Henry believe that the club’s tactics are letting down a side packed full of world class talent. Arsenal have beaten Man City at home in successive seasons but Arteta’s poor decisions could cost the side this weekend.
