Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has provided an injury update on Romeo Lavia following their 2-2 Champions League draw with Qarabag on Wednesday (November 5).

The 21-year-old lasted just five minutes in Baku before being replaced by Moises Caicedo, who Maresca was hoping to give a well-earned rest.

Lavia has been a disastrous signing for Chelsea having joined from Southampton for a reported fee of £58 million back in 2023, making just 29 appearances in that time.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Maresca lamented the fact that Lavia can’t seem to remain fit for a meaningful amount of time.

“We feel a shame for him, especially for him,” he said.

“He's not able to be fit for a long, long period. We will see now. It's too early to understand what kind of injury. I think it's his quad.”
