This will be Man United's first visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium and after an 11 days break, Carrick’s side should be well rested for the trip to Merseyside.

Carrick proud of the culture at Man Utd

Carrick first spoke on comments made by owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, stating that Great Britain had been "colonised" by immigrants.

"I think Sir Jim has made a statement, external and the club has made a statement, external on the back of it.

"For me to add to that is not my place. Enough has been said in that regard. I have been around this club for many years, we make a huge impact globally and we are responsible for that.

"Throughout the years as a player, a member of staff, a supporter, we are really proud of the culture we have at the club, and equality and diversity and respect for each other is something we look to carry forward every day."

United are ready for the challenge against Everton

Next, comments turned to Everton, a side who have only lost one of their last six in the league. Carrick opened up on the challenge ahead and facing manager David Moyes who led United after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson over a decade ago.

"A lot goes into the game. David is such a good manager, knows what it takes to have success. We have had a lot of time to look forward to it. Always tough going to Everton. We are trying to be our best. We have things to improve on. A good spirit and we will draw on that.

"We have to be balanced and not get carried away, we are not getting carried away if we don't come away with three points. A lot of the performance in terms of control we did a lot of good things, we looked dangerous and scoring late was good for us. It was not all negative."

Finally, Carrick commented on team news and revealed that Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt are close to returning: "Mason is getting closer, we have to be patient with him, we don't want to rush anything. He is getting closer. Matthijs he is working towards it, he is a little bit behind Mason."
