Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes is set to return to face Paris Saint-Germain this week.

The midfielder suffered an ankle injury in the first half of Newcastle’s 3-0 win against PSV in the Champions League on Tuesday evening and missed the loss to Aston Villa over the weekend.

Reports have stated that Guimares may miss this week’s Champions League clash with champions Paris Saint-Germain. Now, there has been an update on his fitness that will please manager Eddie Howe.

The Daily Mail report that the Brazilian is part of the squad that flies to Paris on Tuesday afternoon and will undergo a late fitness test before he is given the green light to start the game.

Since his Premier League debut nearly four years ago, Newcastle have not won any of the nine league games Guimaraes has missed in what is an incredible statistic for the side who rely on the midfielder for so much.

From the 27 points on offer, the Magpies have picked up just five without him and as they prepare to face PSG, fans will hope he is ready as without him, victory looks very unlikely.

Howe’s side need a win to guarantee finishing in the top eight and to progress straight to the last 16. Newcastle are not used to life without Guimaraes and will welcome his return on Wednesday night.
