Brighton winger Yoon Do-young has joined Dutch top-flight side Excelsior Rotterdam in a loan deal for the rest of the season.

Do-young agreed to join Brighton last March for around £2M on a five-year contract from South Korean club Daejeon Hana Citizen. Now the 18-year-old has immediately jetted off to his new side in the Netherlands as he looks to prove that he has what it takes to make it in the first team.

Technical director David Weir spoke on the move, which will allow the teenager the minutes on the pitch that he needs to grow and adapt as a player.

"We planned for Yoon to spend his first season on loan, so we're pleased that he will get that opportunity in a top European league.

"The priority for him this season is to acclimatise to life in Europe – he is a young guy and we hope a positive settling in period can be the foundation to a really successful time here."

The South Korean international made 33 appearances for Daejeon Hana Citizen, scoring once and assisting four times. He mostly appeared in the first half of matches for Daejeon under a league rule that promotes the use of young Korean players. He is certainly one to watch for the future at Brighton as manager Fabian Hurzeler invests for the future, which is looking bright for the club.
