Barcelona are set to bid for Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon this summer as talks begin.

As deals for Marcus Rashford, Joao Pedro and Julian Alvarez prove tricky for the Spanish giants, Barcelona are reportedly pushing to sign Gordon in what would be one of the biggest moves of the summer.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have already attempted to lure Gordon to Germany as the England star seems to have his pick of Europe’s top clubs after a return of 17 goals this season, including 10 in the Champions League.

Now, multiple reporters have claimed that talks are underway for Gordon, firstly from talkSPORT’s Alex Crook:

“BREAKING: Barcelona now seriously in the race for Anthony Gordon. Sporting director Deco has initiated talks with #NUFC. Barca believe Gordon is worth €70m. Newcastle will hold out for more.”

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs followed up on the report, stating that the La Liga side have already begun to negotiate their price for the 25-year-old.

“Barcelona have opened talks with Newcastle for Anthony Gordon. Sporting director Deco had initially felt a deal would be too expensive, but Barcelona now believe a deal could be possible for £60m.

“Barcelona see appeal in the fact Gordon can play as both a winger and a forward. #NUFC insist their valuation remains £75m+. Bayern also in talks.”

Gordon appears to be closing in on an exit from Newcastle, a club he signed for from Everton for £45M in January 2023. His mind may be on the World Cup at the moment, but he must also ponder his future as his options are wide open heading into the summer.
