Barcelona kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win against Newcastle United last week in what was an impressive performance by the La Liga giants, who were led by United loanee Marcus Rashford.
Pedri has excelled under Flick took charge in the summer of 2024 and his creativity and stubbornness in midfield was on full display for Scholes who praised the young midfielder.
"My new favourite footballer," he posted on Instagram alongside a photo of the Spain international.
Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish, who is currently at Everton also commented on Pedri’s performance on the night: "Pedri and De Jong are a joy to watch."
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Flick said he appreciates such comments as he attempts to lead the Catalan side to another league title:
"When you're an attacking player, you're more in the spotlight. What Scholes says means a lot; he was a great midfielder. Pedri is at an incredible level, as is Frenkie (de Jong).
“I'm very happy with what I see in training, the quality with which we train... the mood is fantastic. You can see that. This mood helps us keep going."
Pedri made 59 appearances last season as Barça won LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Supercopa. He, alongside teammate Lamine Yamal are regarded as examples of the next generation of superstars who the likes of Scholes cannot wait to see more of.
