The striker said afterwards: "We wanted to get the three points, as you could see from the game. Especially in the first half, where we had quite a few chances but didn't make the right decisions in the final third. In the second half, with the fatigue and the difficult pitch...

"Not frustration, when you create a lot of chances, even if the ball doesn't go in, the team is close to scoring. We were looking for the three points, but we couldn't get it in the final third.

"Now we have to think about Mallorca. We have to stay at the top and focus on the Mallorca game. When it's time for the Champions League, we'll focus on that."

On Julian Alvarez, who drew another blank on the night and was taken off on 73 minutes, Simeone added: "I see Julián doing very well; I see how he works every day.

"He's a fantastic player who is vital for us."
