Douglas Luiz is set to return to his former club Aston Villa on loan from Juventus after a failed Nottingham Forest move.

Despite interest from Chelsea, Luiz is set to join top 4 side Villa this week before the winter window slams shut in just a few days time.

Luiz spent the first half of this campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest, but, he has made just 8 league appearances so far for the side who will be glad to see him leave after what has been a shocking move.

According to The Telegraph and The Athletic the deal is now in place and will go through over the next 24 hours.

The moves comes after knocks to Boubacar Kamara, Ross Barkley, Youri Tielemans and captain John McGinn in midfield as manager Unai Emery desperately looks for solutions.

Luiz only played the full 90 minutes on two occasions during his only season in Italy with Juventus who were not impressed with the playmaker who will be happy to return to Villa where he likely feels at home.

Villa aimed to snag a new midfielder on loan after agreeing a £18M deal for striker Tammy Abraham from Besiktas as they build a side that can stick within the top 4 and secure a Champions League spot for next season.

His loan at Forest reportedly included a conditional obligation to buy for around €30M but due to his lack of appearances, both parties decided to cut the loan short. Villa are third in the Premier League, nine points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea who were said to be ready to make a move for Luiz until Villa swooped in.
