Anthony Gordon has joined Harry Kane in an exclusive Champions League goal-scoring club after netting four times in Newcastle United’s 6-1 win over Qarabag FK in the first leg of their knockout round play-off in Baku.

The player’s remarkable first-half quadruple effectively secured Eddie Howe’s side a place in the next round with a game to spare.

While the 24-year-old has struggled in the Premier League this season, scoring just three goals, his European form has been outstanding.

Gordon also broke Alan Shearer’s record for most Champions League goals in a season for Newcastle and became only the second player in Champions League history to score four first-half goals, joining Luiz Adriano.
