The former Manchester United winger was made to wait until the final days of the transfer window before finally securing a £40million move to Stamford Bridge.
Garnacho found himself frozen out by manager Ruben Amorim whose side have struggled so far this season. United are without European football and still fail domestically, as they sit 14th in the Premier League and are out of the EFL Cup.
Speaking to the club website, Garnacho revealed his love for Europe’s top competition, something United could not offer him under Amorim.
“I think it was a really big three points, and we needed that after losing the first game, so I’m really happy,’ said Garnacho.
“When we are young, we dream of Champions League nights. We are here now, so I am very happy to be at Chelsea, to play in this competition and to get the three points today.”
United failed to beat Tottenham in the Europa League final last season and due to their poor league finish cannot offer their players European football. Garnacho is loving life with The Blues and is already focused on this weekend’s clash with league leaders Liverpool.
“But we said the same every game, we have to try to play with 11 players because today in football the games change a lot with one less player, but I think it’s an important win,
“We also have Liverpool on Saturday at home, and we will try to win, too. We know they are a hard team, but we have to do our best to beat them.”
