After 3 goals in 27 appearances, Fullkrug’s move to the Premier League has been underwhelming to say the least.
The German striker arrived from Borussia Dortmund after bagging 15 goals in 43 appearances but has failed to live up to expectations under multiple managers in England.
The 32-year-old has yet to score in seven appearances for West Ham this term, and the Hammers are said to want to cash in on the veteran as new manager Nuno Espirito Santo reworks the side left to him by former manager Graham Potter.
This comes from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano who revealed the news on Monday morning.
“Let me start with a player who is set to leave his club in this January transfer window, and it’s Niclas Fullkrug. It's over between West Ham and the German striker.
“So a difficult, very difficult first part of the season for West Ham in general, with Graham Potter fired with Nuno Espirito Santo as the new manager.
“The players, apart from a few of them, are not performing as expected. One of these players is Niclas Fullkrug, who joined West Ham United one year ago and is now already out of the project.
“So Fullkrug will leave West Ham in the January transfer window, looking for opportunities. Looking for the opportunity to be a starter. That's a very important point for Fullkrug, who wants to play, and who wants to feel comfortable with the new project he is going to pick.
“There are some possibilities in Germany, some opportunities in Italy. So let's see what's going to happen.”
Several German clubs, including VfL Wolfsburg and Hamburg, are said to be monitoring the situation for the striker whose market value is marked around €10M. Reports state that Füllkrug, a north German, would also feel most at home in Lower Saxon as he leans towards a Wolfsburg move.
