The Belgian won the Bundesliga at first attempt and last week Bayern handed Kompany a new deal to 2031.

"With Kompany, they've made a great move," Matthaus told Sky Deutschland. "He's involved the players in his decisions again, with clear, open, and honest discussions.
"He's reinvented Bayern after four or five years of instability and has done many things that the club felt were missing during those years."
He added, "If they maintain this level, they're among the big favourites for the Champions League."
