Former Bayern boss Felix Magath has spoken on striker Harry Kane and his role in the side.

Bayern Munich could not find a way past 12-man Hamburg, only managing a 2-2 draw over the weekend as the league leaders dropped points once more.

Bayern are now winless in their last two league matches under manager Vincent Kompany as the club continue their lull in form.

Kane found the back of the net in Bayern’s latest outing, taking him to 36 goals for the season through 32 games in all competitions.

As he keeps his form up, he has now been told by Magath that he should focus on scoring rather than defending which he believes will only improve the side/

“I would always use players according to their strengths. Harry Kane can score goals. He's praised by everyone and everyone cheers that he also runs around at the back. But that's not his job.”

“If he were to run around up front instead of in midfield or at the back, that would be better for the team.

On Bayern’s struggles: “It's never good for a team when they're unchallenged at the top and have no opponents left. That's when you become complacent.”

Bayern went unbeaten in their opening 18 league matches, with only two draws coming during that run. The champions still remain favourites to win the title thanks to their healthy lead, but cracks are starting to show and Kompany may have to adjust Kane’s role in the team once more.
