Bellingham has had an inconsistent start to his time with Dortmund after his summer arrival from Sunderland.
But Carsley insists: “We talk about a lot of things, as I do with all of the players.
“The games that he’s been available for to play with us he’s been very good and he’s made a strong start to this qualification campaign.
“It’s important that young players develop at their own time and pace. He’s going in the right direction.
“He’s got really good leadership qualities. He’s a brilliant example on and off the pitch to the rest of the players, along with some of the other players that have been in and around this squad before.
“Him and Archie Gray act like captains. Jobe has got the armband but there are three or four who are more than capable of leading and Jobe has really grown into that role. He’s a player that I love working with.”
