The 28-year-old has already found success after scoring for Bayern in their 2-1 German Super Cup win over Stuttgart on Saturday in what has been a dream start. Diaz joined the German champions in a huge £65.5M deal that is one of the biggest deals of the summer and according to the Colombian, one of the biggest gambles of his career.
In an interview with ESPN, Diaz admitted that the move took some thinking over and he even asked Wirtz about making the switch which has been coming for several weeks as speculation around his future grew.
"It was a big gamble and I'm very grateful to the management for reaching out to me and trusting me. It's always up to me to respond on the pitch and contribute with what I know how to do. To be at the disposal of the coaching staff. To start this way and be together with my team-mates is incredible.
"I already had some knowledge of the Bundesliga. I love watching football and all the competitions. I had the opportunity to talk to Florian in Liverpool, and I know it's a physical league. I hope to have a great debut. I've been here at the club for about two weeks, and I need time to settle in."
Wirtz won the Bundesliga under former Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso the season prior and knows all about the league after spending his entire senior career there, scoring 57 goals in 197 games. Bayern’s attention now shifts to their opening game against RB Leipzig which is the curtain raiser for the league that Diaz will certainly play a huge role in.
