Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman and former striker Michael Owen have admitted that the club are missing Mohamed Salah.

Salah was dropped by manager Arne Slot after his bombshell interview post-Leeds in the reverse fixture last month, in which he said he was thrown “under the bus” by the club.

Since then, an apology was made and the Egyptian has jetted off to represent his country at the Africa Cup of Nations. Liverpool, meanwhile, have found a good run of form which has been ended with a 0-0 draw against Leeds United on Thursday night.

Are Liverpool missing Salah?

Liverpool failed to impress in attack despite dominating possession and speaking to Premier League Productions, Owen has suggested that the club are desperate to see Salah return.

"People who were saying Mo Salah should’ve been dropped or rested, or sold or finished. I mean, that’s them without Mo Salah, he is a difference maker.

"Even when he's not playing well, he can still score goals, and all is forgiven, Mo I suppose, come back!"

McManaman agreed, stating that the team needs Salah to properly structure a side that can not only dominate but also go on to win the game.

"There is just no structure when he's not there. Everybody was just playing anywhere tonight.

"You know, we had three right backs this evening, it was (Conor) Bradley and then it was (Jeremie) Frimpong and then it was (Dominik) Szoboszlai."

Salah is under contract until June 2027, with Liverpool paying him £350,000 per week. Now that the January transfer window is open, Salah may be tempeted to leave as his side fail to forge a title campaign and inconsistency sets in.
