Last Saturday, Salah, one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players, admitted he was "thrown under the bus" by the club, after being benched for three consecutive games by manager Arne Slot who he says he has fallen out with.

The attacker departs for the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday and might not return to the side until late into the January transfer window where many predict he may depart.

Speaking on Premier League productions, Owen believes that if he does leave he should be replaced by Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo who has six league goals this season.

"He is a brilliant player," ex-England international Owen said. "He scores goals - and we don't know if Mohamed Salah will stay or leave but, if he leaves, Semenyo should be his replacement."

Salah was left at home by Liverpool for their Champions League win at Inter Milan on Tuesday night, and is unlikely to feature this weekend against Brighton unless an apology is made.

The Telegraph report that Slot suggested that Salah may deem his hot-tempered interview as a mistake, with him considering peace talks before the weekend which could secure his place back in the side despite Liverpool’s interest in Semenyo.
