The shirt worn by England goalkeeper Peter Shilton in the 'Hand of God' World Cup quarter-final against Argentina in 1986 is to be sold with a huge estimated price.

Shilton was the captain of an England team defeated by Argentina and two notorious goals scored by Maradona, the first of which he used his left hand to lift the ball over Shilton to put his country ahead.

The photograph of Maradona punching the ball past Shilton is one of the most famous sporting images of all time which only boosts the value of Shilton’s shirt which will be wanted by any affluent football merchandise collector.

Maradona's No 10 shirt from the game fetched a then-record of £7.1m at auction in May 2022 and while Shilton’s is not as valuable it is still a piece of history that will be remembered for years to come. Other items available to buy in 12 months’ time include Pele’s 1958 World Cup winners’ medal, which is valued at £300,000 to £500,000 and Gordon Banks’ 1966 World Cup winners’ medal from the 4-2 final triumph over West Germany at Wembley that may fetch between £220,000 and 300,000.

Interestingly supporters will be encouraged to bring their own collectibles to be valued by Graham Budd Auctions which can be added to the lots on sale which may bring up some even more finds that could be sold on the day.
