Legendary football manager Neil Warnock has dramatically returned from retirement at 77, answering an SOS from seventh-tier side Torquay United following the dismissal of Paul Wotton.

The record-breaking boss, renowned for achieving the most promotions in English football, will take interim charge as the Gulls continue their push for promotion.

Warnock, who retired in April 2024 after a brief stint with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, has never stayed away from the touchline for long.

Having served as a football advisor at Torquay for the past two years, his appointment provides immediate stability for the Devon-based club, currently fourth in the league.

The move is designed to maintain momentum while the team navigates a transitional period.

Torquay officially confirmed Wotton’s departure and Warnock’s return, stating: “We are very grateful to Paul for his hard work, professionalism, and commitment. Neil Warnock will take the team for Tuesday night’s fixture with Farnborough.”
