Renewables tycoon Riquelme is the first challenger to rival Perez in 20 years, and it appears he's going to lose his battle.
That is because Jose Mourinho's move to Real Madrid is edging closer. Perez publicly highlighted his desire to bring the Portuguese tactician back to Los Blancos, with the election being the only thing standing in his way.
But according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho's return to the Bernabeu will officially happen once the election is done on June 7.
Encouragingly for Madrid fans, "initial internal talks" over transfer targets have already started, and the 63-year-old is setting his "focus" on signing defenders.
Real Madrid have already been linked with Manchester City's Ruben Dias and many more players ahead of the summer transfer window.
