Liverpool sacked Arne Slot on Saturday, just a year after the Dutchman guided them to the Premier League title in what was a brutal move from the board following a disappointing, trophyless campaign.
Now, Iraola’s whose managerial path has taken him from AEK Larnaca in Cyprus to Mirandes and Rayo Vallecano in Spain, then Premier League rivals Bournemouth where he has impressed for 3 years.
As talks progress, Florian Plettenburg has provided an update on the Spaniard who he reports has reached an agreement with the Reds.
“Andoni Iraola to Liverpool - DONE DEAL.
“Iraola has now given his green light to Liverpool and rejected Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Full agreement reached.
“The 43 y/o Spaniard will replace Arne Slot. Signing soon.”
The BBC report that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group, believe Iraola is the man to re-establish the Reds as one of Europe's top clubs and can lead them back to a title charge next season.
Iraola’s Bournemouth side finished only one spot and three points behind Liverpool in the table as they qualified for next season's Europa League.
More updates on the appointment should come later soon, with the club likely to announce him as head coach before the end of the week.
